Welcome post
Jan. 21st, 2019 01:32 amHello!
This is a new dreamwidth com to host an old livejournal challenge.
A big thank you to
andraste, the owner of that community, for giving me permission to start it up again on dreamwidth.

Some very basic rules:
1) Be civil to each other.
2) Don't start an argument about what constitutes a fandom. That's someone else's card not yours.
3) If you decide you want to post directly to the com for some reason, please be courteous to other's reading lists and make a text cut.
_______________________________________________________________
This is a multifandom challenge community, where the idea is to get people to write stories in one hundred different fandoms.
To inspire and frustrate you, you also get one hundred prompts to fill at the same time.
If you are also taking part in the
51pluscrossoverfandoms challenge, you are welcome to count any appropriate stories against both challenges.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What do I need to do, exactly?
A: Copy the code for the prompt table and put it in your journal.
Start writing and filling in the table by linking from the prompts to your stories (if you're already using the table from the old livejournal com, that's OK).
AS you finish each story or your complete card, you can link your stories in the community as well, if you'd like. If you'd rather just keep your card to yourself, that's fine as well.
Q: Are original fics allowed?
A: Not in this challenge because we're concentrating on fandoms, but if you wanted to start a similar com for original fics then please go ahead. :D
Q: How long do the stories have to be?
A: At least a drabble (one hundred words). There is no upper word limit.
Q: Do the stories have to be written in English?
A: No, they don't.
Q: Isn't it going to take a long time to write in one hundred different fandoms?
A: Probably, but there's no time limit and no hurry.
Q: Can I use stories that I've written before to fill in part of the table?
A: Feel free.
Q: Can I count stories written for other challenges.
A: Yes, of course you can.
Q: What constitutes a 'fandom' for the purposes of this community? I mean, can we count Sharknado, Sharknado 2: The Second One, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming and The Last Sharknado: It's About Time as six different fandoms?
A: Probably not, but you do you. :D In other words, you know your fandoms a lot better than I do, so you make the call. There's really no point to 'fudging' this challenge else why undertake it in the first place?
Q: How about crossovers?
A: You are welcome to write crossovers. Conceivably you could get to one hundred fandoms after only fifty stories that way, but you still have to write a story for each prompt to complete the challenge. If you've written some crossovers, feel free to double up on some fandoms. You don't need to write in more than one hundred different fandoms.

Date: 2019-01-21 06:05 pm (UTC)It's about the number of fandoms covered, not the language the fics are written in so I see no reason to limit it to English language fics only.

Date: 2019-01-22 12:48 am (UTC)Can I count different franchise of a fandom count as it's own fandom?
Can I count Star Trek Original, DS-9, and Voyager as their own thing? If I cross them can I count it as well?
I'm sorry I am just trying to mentally come up with a 100 fandoms for me.

Date: 2019-01-22 03:41 am (UTC)As I said, it's up to you to decide what constitutes a different fandom, the Sharknado example was intended as a joke as it is the same exact characters over and over again. If it helps, I would consider ST:TOS, DS-9 and Voyager to be 3 separate fandoms. :D
For a crossover, you get to count each fandom used one time against the 100 count.
So, if you write all three of the following crossovers:
ST:TOS x DS-9 = 2 fandoms you can count.
ST:TOS x Voyager - 1 fandom you can count.
Ds-9 x Voyager = no fandoms you can count.

no subject
Date: 2019-01-24 11:48 pm (UTC)I really meant it when I said people answering this challenge should decide for themselves what constitutes a separate fandom. If anyone knowingly fudges it then they're just cheating themselves in terms of completing the challenge.
Oh, and rpf canons are definitely OK. All types of fandom are welcome just not original fic.

Date: 2019-01-26 01:04 am (UTC)MCU and Marvel comics are obviously separate fandoms, but I was wondering if I can differentiate within “Marvel Comics” as that is a huge meta-fandom? For example I currently have draft ideas for a She-Hulk, an Avengers Academy and an X-Men piece. All three have no overlap in characters nor source material, and on AO3 (where I post my work) I would tag each under a different “fandom”. However they all are technically set in the same universe (616). Do they count as separate fandoms?
Also, would it be okay to split Arrowverse into the distinct shows (Flash, Arrow, Legends, Supergirl) if different themes and characters were used? Or it that not allowed?
I only ask because I want to do this right, and would love to explore aspects of comics I have never written before.

Date: 2019-01-26 04:59 am (UTC)I know that fans getting very frustrated with AO3 tagging because they know these things are separate, if related, canons and don't want to see them grouped together.
To use a silly example, all current day set crime show canons are in the same "universe" but obviously aren't the same canon.

The accomplishment is all about the number of fandoms you manage to write in.

Date: 2019-02-05 11:32 am (UTC)Would you consider MCU as one fandom or each series (Captain America, Iron Man, Guardians of the galaxy for example) as separate fandoms? There are overlapping characters.
no subject
Date: 2019-02-05 02:28 pm (UTC)I am not in the MCU fandom so you'd be a better judge than me but, from the outside looking in, I'd definitely see those as different fandoms.

no subject
Date: 2019-02-22 06:24 am (UTC)Also would related shows (e.g. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena:Warrior Princess) count as separate fandoms or one fandom? In the case of Hercules and Xena as per my example, there's some character crossover as well as a shared location and time setting plus there's even an animated crossover film between the two. Additionally, sometimes characters from one show cross over to the other for one or two episodes, although sometimes they are more often seen on the show they crossed over to then the show they originally appeared in.

Date: 2019-02-22 03:49 pm (UTC)But, if it helps you any, I would definitely consider reboots to constitute a separate fandom and AO3 definitely agrees so go for it.
And again, I would defintely consider Hercules and Xena to be different fandoms.

Date: 2023-03-04 11:23 pm (UTC)1. do they need to be written in order?
2. is there a google sheets version?
3. I know its a 'up to you' for fandoms, but I was wonering how that would apply to marvel or other incarnations of a series such as TMNT where they are basically different fandoms?
no subject
Date: 2023-03-05 12:52 am (UTC)Yes, it's still ongoing and will remain open as there's no deadline for it. There's a related Crossover challenge com and one that's for 100 ships.
There have been a handful of posts already this year.
No, there's just the table - it was inherited from an older form of this challenge on livejournal.
The judgement on what constitutes a separate fandom is made entirely by the person writing the stories. It's set up this way because with 100 fandoms per writer, there's no way we could keep track of what is a fandom and what isn't a fandom. As a member of that fandom, we think you know better than we do if it's truly a separate fandom and we choose to trust our members. :D
